THE PROJECT

OK, well this whole event will start on August 23rd with the 22 mile
swim (the distance of the English Channel) at Barton Marina,
Staffordshire. This should take me approximately 12 -13 hours
to finish. Once this is completed we will jump in the van and
drive south to Lands End.

The very next day the cycle leg will begin, this is the big one,
874 miles! All the way to John O Groats.

The route is as follows:

Lands End - Penzance - Bodmin - Launceston - Okehampton - Taunton
- Avonmouth - Bristol - Gloucester - Worcester - Midlands - Wolverhampton
- Warrington - Manchester - Preston - Lakes - Shap Fell - Carlisle - Gretna
- Devils Beef Tub - Fort Road Bridge - Slockd Summit - Inverness - Aviemore
- John O Groats.

All being well I will be cycling through Derby on Wednesday 26th August
(that’s right, 2 days after starting the cycling in Lands End).

Finally, and thankfully, the run. From west to east, starting in St Bees,
Cumbria, I will be looking at 5 days of 38 miles per day. The whole route
is very hilly and most is nothing more than a rough path.

The total distance for this stage is 166 miles and the route being taken is
as follows: St Bees - Ennerdale - Rosthwaite - Patterdale - Shap - Kirkby
Steven - Keld / Thwaite - Reeth - Richmond - Ingeleby Cross / Osmotherley
- ClayBank Top - Glaisdale / Grosmont - Robin Hoods Bay!

I have completed many ultra distance events before, I ran 100 miles non
stop and have completed Ironman events and ultra cycling distances.
This distance however has never been completed before, so my time
will be a "benchmark".

Wish me luck

Many thanks

Simon.
